There are enough black people in the series:
1. Lee Jordan (Gryffindor student, friend of Fred and George Weasley)
2. Angelina Johnson (Gryffindor Quidditch player)
3. Dean Thomas (Gryffindor student in Harry's year)
4. Kingsley Shacklebolt (the character appears in the 6th book for the first time)
And there are other races mixed in the story as well. Cho Chang is an asian and Parvati & Padma Patil are indians.

The nice thing about Harry Potter is that many different races and cultures are represented without a big deal being made of it or differences being pointed out. It is simply accepted in the book that all cultures are equal, if not the same. For instance, Harry's girlfriend Cho Chang is of east Asian descent, but it is never pointed out because it doesn't matter. The fact that she's an Asian girl has no bearing on her role in the story. She is treated simply as a girl. Who happens to be a witch/wizard. The issue of discrimination is dealt with through the subplot of magical folks vs. non-magical folks or "muggles" and is looked upon in a derogatory fashion.

Well it's in England or whatever and written by a woman in England or whatever based on what her children were around.
I did see some Blacks and Asians AND in the newest movie an Asian will be one of the main characters. The only characters most people notice or pay attention to are Harry and that Ron dude and that Chick whose name should be Harmony or Hermes but is like a ltittle combined.
People don't even remember the teachers or anything,.. maybe your not looking at every single student.

There are quite a few black characters in Harry Potter- Dean Thomas, Lee Jordan and Angelina Johnson to name but a few... Also there are other ethnic minorities- Padma and Parvati Patil are Asian (Indian) and Cho Chang is Chinese...
As the story takes place in Britain there are quite a few ethnic minority characters in the story... cos its pretty multicultural here!

well, there's
Lee Jordan (announcer for quidditch games in first few books.. older than harry)....
Dean Thomas (harry's suitemate in gryffinder, he dates ginny in book 6).....
Angelina Johnson (quidditch player, she went to the dance w/ Fred Weasley in book 4)....
as for other races, there are:
cho chang (chinese, harry's love interest in book 4/5)
parvati/padma patil (indian girls, went to the dance w/ harry and ron in book 4)
i suppose the movies do condense their screen time, and yes the Main characters are white. oh well sue them. and EVERY SINGLE OTHER MOVIE AND TV SHOW W/ MOSTLY WHITE CHARACTERS... goodness gracious, it's not like "black" tv shows or movies have SO many white Main characters either.

I'm not into fantasy, books and movies about magic, etc. so I'm not sure about the characters, but I'm assuming that the reason is because there are no (or very few) Blacks in the “Harry Potter” books. If the characters in the book are mostly White, then the characters in the movies are going to be mostly White, too.

There are a few... however, the writer is British, and the movie is based in the UK, so racial demographics and perceptions are likely different. You'd have to ask the author and director.
