I only have 64 megs of video memory. Most laptops in this price range, have 128 megs of video memory. Is this memory used just for video viewing or is it also important for monitor performance? Can it be upgraded or increased? I want to make sure, I have enough available RAM. I only have 512 megs.

Ok this is a tricky question...

Some video memory is shared with your system RAM, and takes away from your systems performance. If this is the case, you may be able to adjust it higher from your BIOS and then you can just add more system RAM to make up or it.

Other video memory is independent of the system and to increase it you woul d first need to see if you have a slot for the video card, then which type (AGP, PCI-E). Once you determine this then you may be able to buy a new video card with 128, 256 or even 512 MB of video...if your running a laptop it is more restricted in types you can buy and in video memery size.

The video memory is for storing all the textures, graphics and images, along with generating 3d graphics. The more you have, the better games and videos will play. 64mb should be a decent amount for watching movies and videos, but don't expect to play many games on it, or if you do, play with the lowest settings. And I don't think there is any way to upgrade video memory in a laptop, seeing as though it is usually integrated into the motherboard. So think about what you are planning to use the laptop for before you make your final decision.

Upgrading to a different video card with at least 128 megabytes of ram would be both affordable and recomended.Video ram is used for all graphical production on your monitor.

Video memory is for viewing videos only and more is better! It has no other function except to smooth out videos.
