What interval does an E flat sax transpose up or down?

The Eb saxophone is either a baritone or an alto saxophone. Depending on which one, it transposes up a minor second or up a minor second and an octave for the baritone.

that question doesnt make since...and im a music major...but ill try and answer it none the less --

alto and bari are Eb sax's so is the contra bass (almost never played)

the term 'Eb' means that when the concert Eb scale is played, the instrament will have NO sharps or flats in the key signiture. any instrament with a note infront of it means the same

such as:

C trumpet (melody trumpet)
Bb-clarinet
Bb sax (soprano and tenor)

alto sax is another name. Sometimes is said to come from the "military band"
