There will be lot of reasons , if one want to hire you .
a) Technical Knowlege
b ) communication skills
c) Intrests
etc ..
Above all I should say your attitude towards work & people really matters .

I would hope that they would expect a reporter to be able to read and write clearly without outrageous errors, and do so in whatever language they were writing in, even if that was not their first language.
