Keep your cards in good condition. Put them in those plastic envelopes. There are so many brand names now that it is hard to keep up. I don't think one is better than the other. Rookie Cards are usually the highest priced card for an individual. Look out for those RCs.
Good luck.

Buy mint condition sets every year of all the the brands. Buy roo kie cards of the best prospects. A small investment now for the top rooks could be profitable in the future. Predict which young players right now will end up in the hall of fame, like a miguel Cabrera, Joe mauer, Buy pujols rookie.

Hey..I collect many baseball cards and I have been collecting them for about 10 years..Start out small..buy like 5 or 10 packs to start with..then every month buy 2 or more packs..you'll see slowly that your collection will grow..slowly and steadily it will..as for which packs to buy it's completely up to you..if you want old cards like from the 70s or 80s then thats up to you..I only buy recent cards b/c i have many cards from the 70s and 80s..in the 2006 packs, you will find many rookie cards, inserts (these are promo sort of cards), and also you will find inter autos (autographs..they look fake but they are topps certified)..the possibility of finding an insert auto is very slim..I've bought about 25 packs and found 1..that one is an Ian Kinsler autograph rookie card..It was awesome finding that card!..Look out for rookie cards too..look on eBay for low-priced packs..buy any Topps or Upper Deck cards..if u want to get recent cards get the 2006 Topps pack w/Derek Jeter on the front!!
Good Luck!

Well, people often collect for different reasons and often "sets" are the goal. I think rather than think about money and cards increasing in value, collect players you like or just try to get all the guys on your fave team year by year. That to me would be much more satisfying and give you great memories.

1.To start off-try just to get a lot of cards cheaply. For Example buy a couple of the 9.99 sets or 19.99 sets. This alows you to complile a large amount of cards and just kind of fuels your "want" to get more cards. Almost everytime-you will not get a rare card in these packs but they are just cool to get lots of cards.
2. Next look up for your favorite player/players rookie/autographed card. I beliece this is just fun because it allows you to boast to your friends "Oh i got so-and-sos rookie" or whatever. Also autographs/rookies are woth more.
3. I dont really buy any certain pack but i do like to buy the packs that you only get 2 cards but they are guarenteed to be either a jersey or autograph card. I really like these because they are just cooler.
4. For the cases, buy a couple packs of the soft case and a pack of the hard cases. Also pick up any card book/binder and get the card slots. For al the "cheap" cards you bought put them in the soft cases. For any of the cards that you bought that were nicer or more expensive, first put it into a soft case and then put it inside of a hard case (use both cases for nicer cards) Any cards that you just like-the way the look or who they are, put it into the Binder or Book.
5. Watch out for any autographs, jerseys, or rookies. Try to get as many rookies as you can because they may amount to something later in there career and you saved a card that may have cost you 2 cents and now its worth $5 bucks.
6. Just have fun with it, it doesnt take a lot of money to have fun with cards. Also and most importantly----NEVER throw away your cards if you lose interest, save them for a son or daughter that may have interest (or niece nephew).
Good Luck

It all depends on why your collecting. You can go out and get a crap load of cards just to say you have them or collect them or you can collect certain teams or players. I originally started out collecting all the players I liked (which was a lot.) You can either go on ebay or local card shops and buy just that player or team to build your collection. Now-a-days, there are a lot of different sets with multiple cards of 1 player per set. So if you decide on some players to collect, you might want to limit yourself to just memorabilia and/or autographs or low seriel #'d cards or you can just try to get as many different cards as you want of a certain player. It all depends on you and why you are collecting. My collection just got to be huge and I didn't go through them anymore so I sold everything and just started collecting White Sox Memorabilia and Autographs. They cost a little more but it'll help keep your collection manageable.
