It wasn't for me. My wife is from Bolivia. I'm from Kansas. We met on line. Then a year later we met the first time in Spain. Six months later we got married in Bolivia. Now, four years and 1 kid later, we live in Kansas and its still going good with 1 more baby on the way. I almost past her up when she responded to my personal add because that trip to Uzbekistan in 94 to meet the Russian gal never worked out. Although it was a real adventure so I wrote my wife back thinking there might be another adventure. It turned out to be the adventure I was looking for. Oh did I mention I also picked up Spanish along the way. No guts, no glory.

Technically, if you "met" him or her online you haven't truly "MET". How do you judge the true honesty and integrity of a relationship solely based on internet conversations and perhaps webcam transactions? I can't say that I could determine whether or not distance would be a problem unless I had an opportunity to truly get to know the person via a person to person quality interaction where everything from physical attraction to mutual compatability to body language to all the little things that are omitted in an online interaction play into the decision making process when entering into a real relationship. I realize it is easy to become infatuated with the idea of someone via an online interaction, but how do you know if it is real or fantasy? Maybe I am old fashioned or narrow minded. Call it what you will, but I am just too paranoid to believe that you can meet the person of your dreams while chatting on the internet. Now I am not saying I am the all knowing infinite wise one on this subject or that it is not possible. I just can't imagine a person could truly get to know someone online well enough to decide this is the person you have been waiting for without first taking the relationship out of cyberspace and into reality before deciding to alter your life for the sake of something you obviously are unsure about enough yourself to be on here questioning it as you are today.

Well, if she/he is THE ONE, then distance shouldn't be a problem. I mean, you can move closer to eachother. And if you don't have time right now (you might be caught up in something), then your love will keep you together.
But if she/he is not THE ONE, and is just a little more than love, than you might have a problem, unless one or both of you make the decission to move closer together. If you are far away, you won't be able to respect a commitment.
And, of course, i could be wrong... It's up to you to decide.

now lets say that this dream guy/girl is actully a fat 47 year old man living in his mom's basement cruising the internet looking for 16 year old winey teenage girls to get "close" to and rape, now would that be a problem? Look dude, meet people in bars or partys or places, getting someone from the internet is always ends with bad things happening.

yes, long distance relationships are draining.even 50 miles apart is too much. it is limiting your odds of finding someone special.
but to drive an hour each way to see each other on the spur of the moment gets old real soon.

a little inconvenient for dating. But.... I can afford to travel and rack up a phone bill.

If it got serious and looked like a permanent possibility, I'd just move.
