Your dog basically has staked ownership to the house, your cat is just trying to get along.
When the dog feels that it's position of top dog is no longer threatened, it will passively accept your cat and then become friends with it.
Just be prepared, it will take a while, but it is WAY worth the effort.
Don't get frustrated, just know that some day in the future, they will be the best of friends and it will all have been worth it.
Great blessings to you this Christmas.

Because the dog is your moms and the cat is yours you must work with your mom to fix the issue.
You should allow only supervised interaction between the two pets, give each pet an area where they can be at peace without the other , for the dog I suggest a kennel/crate. For the cat a room of the house where the dog is no longer allowed.
With this set up the two animal have a safe place, called home. after a while under supervised visits with each other the home will start smelling like both animals and they will have better exceptance of each other. they may never curl up together, but can limit much of the prey chasing behavior that dogs do with cats, even if they are the same size. and the fear aggression which cats can display with dogs. just keep in mind that dog and cats are social animals.

That is going to be very tough, especially for the 5 year old dog. If they were both babies, it would be easier. At this point, I can't think of any way to make them get along other than professional training for the dog. The cat will probably not get defensive if the dog didn't act offensive. Good luck with that.

That person is posting that every where,.. I think they are a bot (the man person).
Your cats still young,.. it's going to have to be the one to adjust it's behavior.
Anything you try to do will just make things worse because it won't be something they developed on their own towards each other. It might be fine while your working on it but then they will become worse the second your not around or the day after you stop whatever you thought was helpping.
They need a socialize, settle down, and adjust to each other.

convinced, cats and dogs can get alongside. It relies upon on the nature of the cat and dogs as to no matter if or not they're going to get alongside. a particular breed doesn't continuously propose they're going to get alongside more beneficial with cats. flow on your nearest animal protect and undertake a dogs. one it is older and not in any respect a pup will be more beneficial mellow and less demanding on your cat to get alongside with. also, protect dogs are in many cases more beneficial round cats, different dogs, and little ones. in the adventure that they'd body of ideas complications then they couldn't be followed out, for this reason they does no longer be on the protect. yet flow on your nearest protect and ask about the dogs, they're sure to have fairly some to opt for on from that receives alongside properly inclusive of your cat.
