This is my 3rd pregnancy, I'm 4-5wks preg, and the nauseous feeling has started already. I haven't actually vomited, but the constant sickly feeling is so bad, and I'm finding that the only thing to cure it is eating!!!! With my first pregnancy I had sickness from 6-16wks and then again from 35-40wks...but with my second pregnancy, I had sickness from 6-40 weeks non stop, I lost weight, became very ill, and really suffered. To put it bluntly, I'm terrified of getting it that bad again, and my docs refused to give me any anti sickness tablets last time because it was "normal"...yeah right!
Does anyone have any proven tips for preventing morning sickness, or at least making this sickly feeling a bit more tolerable?

I have a phobia with vomiting as well, but I had vomiting by 4 weeks p-conception. I didn't throw up every day, more like every other day or every 2 days. It just becomes routine and though it's still not comfortable you just have to get over that fear and realize you are doing this for a wonderful prize. I know that doesn't ALWAYS help but it can help you when you start to feel like giving up. Believe me, I had my days and still do - but I think about the moment I will be holding my baby, the moment I will be able to say that I DID IT, and all of the relief and happiness I will feel at that moment... And my regrets all go away. It can make you miserable and make you wish you never got pregnant, BUT you don't have to feel that way. Not all women get vomiting, and not all women get nausea. Some are lucky and get none of that. Others just get nausea and no vomiting. Regardless it's best if you keep food in your tummy at all times (just a little and light), drink cold water, and keep well rested. Sea bands might help you if you start to feel sick. Just try to relax - good luck and congratulations! :)

I also suffered terribly with my second son, I don't know how I coped, was so sick I was in hospital, but thankfully with my daughter and my current fourth pregnancy I have not been that sick.
I found that taking extra zinc helps, zinc deficiency is linked to bad sickness. If you get a lot of colds etc you may be zinc deficient. You can take 30mg zinc a day safetly, it is also important for fetal development.
If you are very sick you will be short of potassium, you can keep this up with supplements, bananas and beetroot.
Also if you are taking a lot of iron supplements, this could make you more sick, and without a doubt stress and tiredness also makes the sickness worse.
Also try and eat small meals or snacks at least every few hours to prevent sickness.
Acupuncture can also help although I have not tried it myself

I really feel for you hon. I had Hyperemesis graviderum in both my second and third pregnancies (severe sickness non stop 24 hours a day for six months both times). It is rare to have it during more than one pregnancy I was a bit of an anomoly according to my doctor so don't worry too much, if eating helps then eat but try to keep it healthy if you can. Drink as much water as you can to prevent dehydration, get as much rest as you can manage (not easy with 2 other children I know), ginger helps, either ginger biscuits or ginger tea. Good luck.

My doctor refused to give me anti sickness medication so I saw another doctor!
This doctor gave me cyclizine which really helped.
My little boy is fine and it had no bad effects on him as it is safe for use in pregnancy.
Some doctors won't prescribe anything for pregnant women, it depends on the doctor.
Really, anti sickness medication was the only thing that worked for me. None of the natural remedies did a blind bit of difference and some made me feel worse!

Hi,
I am 8 weeks and I feel icky but have not actually been sick, nor was I with my son and I feel the same as you, if I eat I feel better.
I find to have some toast with a little spread on as soon as I get up really helps and herbal tea seems to settle the stomach also

I had real bad morning sickness with my first child. It was so bad that I felt sick just smelling food cooking. I had fruit and veg all the time. I lost a stone in weight when he was born, but I wasn't complaining. Any thing with Ginger is said to prevent nausea, ginger biscuits, ginger sweets, stem ginger, ginger beer, and it does help.

I would suggest going back to your doctor and explaining your concerns again. If this is the same doctor from your last pregnancy, then they should be aware that the illness you suffered was not "normal." If you feel that you're not receiving the kind of care you need from your current physician, you may want to consider finding another one.

I always found that I felt worse when my stomach was empty. Try making sure that you have a snack with you at all time. In an ideal world it would be fruit, but for me it was usually biscuits. Just eat little and often. If it gets really bad, go and see your GP and don't leave until he has taken you seriously !

have you tried acupressure travel sickness bands, they're too uncomfortable to wear all the time but could give you a few hours respite. i got mine from my local pharmacy and used to use them while i was at work, and they look like sports wrist bands. otherwise use it as a very valid reason to eat whatever doesn't make you feel sick...i went through a stage where i ate 4 lites of ice cream a week minimum!
Congratulation on being pregnant
