I don't deny the fact that there was a "rape" in Nanking.
And I don't deny the fact that the Japanese government is hiding things. But I think that's what governments do in any country.
No country's history is made up of rainbows and sunflowers.
EVERY country has a shady event in their past.
Am I proud of the Japanese government for having a shady past? No of course not. But it's a fact of life.
(And I can say with absolute certainty that the majority of the Japanese are not proud of what their country did in WW2.)
However picking this issue and addressing all Japanese culture and people as liars and sadist is I think wrong and unfair.
I once got my head smashed with a chair in highschool by a Korean kid because he viewed Japanese as "evil".
After the incident my friends asked the kid why he did that and he said and I quote: "The Japanese invaded our land, killed our men and raped our women".
I swear those were his EXACT words.
Now I don't care in history what my "ancestors" did to his country and his people. Nobody should be teaching their kids so much hate that he loses control and smacks an innocent person with a chair for things that happened more than a half a century ago.
Now with that said, am I going to hate every Korean I meet because once a long time ago a Korean kid hit me in the head with a chair?
No of course not. How stupid would that make me look????
Some of my best friends are Korean.

**** YOU JORIENTAL! Your ******* attitude is why Japan is still hated by China, Korea and me. Data? U want data? Ok i tell you! Most data were systemetically destroyed by the Japanese government during the Rape inorder to cover-up their crimes! Did u even bloody even read the Rape of Nanking? I bet you wont have the guts. Data? How does it matter if the Japanese army massecred 200,000 or 350,000 innocent lives? It was bloody 50 half a century ago and the Japanese government has never been coorperative in the study of the Rape of Nanking, if u Japanese have a semblance of shame you should be thanking the late Iris Chang as she tried to fight against the censors to uncover the truth INSTEAD OF MOCKING HER U PIECE OF ****! SHOW SOME BLOODY RESPECT!
I dont wanna hate u but u are forcing me to despise you! ******* loser!
samurai d, i suggest u take your 10 year old **** and shove it back where it came from.

Japan doesn't cover its history. They know there were lots of tragedies done by Japan. It is not only about the Nanking.
That is why Japan have been released so many apology statements, more than 35 times.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_war_apology_statements_issued_by_Japan
However, when the world recognize individual historical issues, scholarss in the world NEED exact data for their verification.
You know Iris Chang, she released one book before.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rape_of_Nanking_%28book%29
Japan also asked her to release this book in Japan.
And also Japan needed her to add exact data with the book. But she refused. And what happend to her finally? I think if she is right she should continue to release this kind of book more.

If people dont really know about it, then there is no issue to discuss. Now days it is much better, since the introduction of the internet, that is. And the text books have been updated also.

Boy, the thumbs down parade will be in force here for sure - though a few probably deserve it.
It's not so much covering up its history as it is glossing it over, in my opinion, such as with the controversial history text books and the like which give little indepth detail and analysis.
There are also revisionists that try to lessen the death toll of Nanking - hmmm seems familiar to another kind of revisionist who debate the death toll of the Holocaust.
Every nation has blood on its hands. To ignore that is wrong but at the same time to endlessly harp on another nation's bloody deeds is non-constructive and simply perpuates the cycle of hatred and ill-will that brought about such bloody deeds in the first place.
---------------------------------
Yep, thumbs down already. Thanks for proving me right, dorks. Now I think your mother is calling you
-------------------------
Get bent, Bum and grow up while you're at it, son.
------------------------------------------------
This has got to be one of the most childish displays of intolerance by the thumbs down group. Yahoo answers needs to be deprived these children of their toys and yank that function.

Japan doesn't cover up it's history but the government wants their history books to be more PATRIOTIC. Which means Japan's past will be glorified.
This article talks about the bill that was just passed in Japan.
