well the same shape of a triangle but a different size makes a triangle similar to each other, but do they have to be proportional... Im a bit confused on what proportional mean in the case of similar triangles.

Two triangles are similar if two angles of one are equal to two angles of the other. This really means that all the angles are = to all the angles of the othere because if 2 angles are = , then the 3rd angles must also be =.
Similar triangles have their corresponding sides proportional to each other. If triangle ABC similar to triangle DEF, then
AB/DE = BC/EF = AC/DF or
AB/BC = DE/EF, etc

This is frequently used so please take the time to thoroughly understand it.
