I have used DainO foam and gel, ran a 25' snake, and replaced some of the old iron pipe under the sink with new plastic ones. The plumbing is original, house built in 1952 so I am hesitant to use acid, but can't afford a plumber for another 3 weeks. I have lived with this for 3 weeks now. Drain runs VERY slow. What else can I use? When water fills up sink it is greasy.

Is any other drains having a problem? Then it could your septic tank if your not hook up to the city/county.Tree roots also causes lots of plumbing problems.I would do this first, have someone see if the vent leading to your drain is stop up. You can run a snake down it or a blow bag device, but be careful doing the later because you will have water everywhere.

There is a liquid drain cleaner you can buy at Home Depot and elsewhere that is essentially a very concentrated detergent. It won't hurt your pipes, but will loosen up the grease. At night, and for several nights in a row, pour around 8 ounces into your kitchen sink after first running hot water for a while to soften up the sludge. Use it full strength, don't dilute it because your stoppage is so bad. In your case, you may not be able to run very much hot water the first night. After pouring the drain cleaner into the sink, run another 16 ounces or so of hot water to get the cleaner down into the drain pipe. Let it sit for 6-8 hours before running water. Repeat each night until the drain flows as it should.

If this doesn't work, you'll probably have to call a plumber. A house built in 1952 most likely uses cast iron drain pipes, which deteriorate over time. I had to have a section replaced under my concrete slab, which wasn't cheap.

There may be something soft in the pipes (like some idiot put pasta or something down) which the snake will go thru but not clear. Try the plunger, it could force soft obstructions down stream to the larger pipe.
