If I play a psone game on a ps2 can I save it using a memory card?

I am replaying the Legacy of Kain...but I don't know if i am going to be able to save once I get a playstation 2. I lost my memory card for the ps1 so ... i am using that as the excuse to get the ps2

So does the PS2 have a slot for PS1 memory cards?

you can't use the same memory cards. PS2 games take up more data, and the PS1 memory cards can't take that amount of information. So while you can use the Ps1 memory card in your new PS2, you can only use it for PS1 games.
