A couple of things that you want to check out would be to make sure the actural battery connections are tight. The other thing it could be is your coil packs are getting old, or have a fault in them. They can be kind of expensive. The other thing also is if you bought the car used, did it have a after market security system that you do not have the remote for, if so, sometimes these aftermarkets act the factory, and will shut off the fuel pump. meing that there is a short, and everything will function except for the car starting. The other thing is the sending unit for the fuel pump could be malfunction as well. Also try a fuel filter. But sounding like the ecu could be causing issues, coil packs, or fuel filter, or sending unit. If it is a 3800 i had a issue in a lesabre similar, and it was a loose wire on the back of the computer. For best results, I would not take it to a gm garage, shop around for a very reptable mech at a neighor hood garage, sometimes a dealer can really mess u up money wise..

I have a 2004 Impala LS and have had some similar problems. Everytime something out of the ordinary starts to happen, I take it straight to the shop. My car totally died on me one day. It happened to have a bad alternator and battery while under warranty. The next week, it died on me again. This time I turned the key 15-20 times, nothing. Called for a tow, turned the key, it started, cancelled the tow. I had noticed a strange sound coming from the speedometer at start-up long before this happened. I had the speedometer cluster replaced and everything has been fine since then. I think it was causing a shortage with the ignition and maybe some other things. You may want to pay attention to that area and see if you notice anything. Cars have so much electronics in them today, it's hard to tell what the cause is. The mechanics rely more on what you observe your car doing to try to find the problem.

I had a 2000 S-10 ZR2 with a 4.3 V-6 that did the same thing to me. After several trips to the dealership and several modules later and several times being late for work--it finally started correctly. It was soon after, that I bought a Ford truck and haven't had a problem one. Needless to say that I have bought my last GM product.

Some GM vehicles have a special chip in the key and sometimes the ign. switch will not read the key correctly and will not start the car. Try using another good key. If it works cut a new key and program it to the car. Look in the owners manual for programming a new key. Make sure you throw away the old key.

You need to check in 2 things: fuel pressure and have your starter checked.
