Your old hard drive shouldnt be the problem! You dont have xp2001 because there is no such thing! Your PC is probably so cluttered with adware and spyware and you have never defragged it! It sounds like even if you were given details on how to install the drive you dont know enough about PCs to do it anyway! Save yourself some trouble and let someone who knows what they are doing resolve your problems! Unless you dont have any space left on your old drive, dont waste time replacing it because it ISNT your speed problem!

Go to the Maxtor and download their Maxblast program. It will set up your new drive for you and also give you the option of copying everything from your old drive to your new drive...
As far as installing the hard drive mount the hard drive in your case using the screws provided.
Here's a guide with pics.

Quick Answer: Open up your Computer case, find an open IDE connector (your current hard drive should be attached to a wide, most-likely grey cable, and it should have another connection on it) (or if its SATA, a small, most-likely red cable) Plug it in, mount the Hard drive so it doesnt move, plug in a power cable, and turn the machine on.

before you do that...clean out memory...should be at 50 i think, it has guide, wipe out temp folders...run defragment....this will help your old problem....if you still want to put in hard drives....whew this scares me...to to maxtor...and get instructions from them...or if it came with disk, put it in and follow directions, you may have to pull old one out and put new in your old computer...or go to best-by and get a Geek squad to do it in computer store (BEST YET)
