Just curious about what people do for Christmas Traditions, some families I know before they open presents sit down and someone in the family reads out of the Bible the story of the birth of Jesus, some do other things.

In my house on Christmas Morning the kids come down to see what Santa brought them and what's in their stockings.

Just curious as to what some of you do for your Christmas traditions.

We have 3 young kids and my husband and I pretend to sleep in until the kids run downstairs, see that Santa has visited, then they run back up to "wake us up" bubbling over with excitement. Their joy is a gift to us and they don't even know it!

Before X-mas (usually about 10 days before it) we bake traditional "medovniky" which is some kind of "honey cake" and decorate them nicely. We make various shapes- stars, hearts, angels, horses, etc. after cooling down, they are hard and thats why we put them into bowl until they are soft (which takes about a week). On Dec 24 in the morning, we decorate christmas tree with "medovniky", straw ornaments and fruits. We used to use modern shiny decorations but we like natural tree more. It smells so great! While decorating it, we sing carols. And during the day, we prepare supper and watch traditional fairy tales which are the same every year and we know the texts by heart but its just the tradition! No one i know (both kids and old people) can imagine their X-mas without story about Grandpa Frost, Cinderella and 3 chestnuts, Lady Winter or "Salt is more than gold".
For supper, we eat fish and potato salad, wafers, honey, nuts, steaks, various cakes, etc. it depends on the region and family. After supper, mother makes cross on her kids´ foreheads with honey so that they are as good as honey and cross should protect them. It is also thought that you should not get up and leave before everyone has finished eating because you may die next year. The crumbs from food are collected and it is believed they have healing ability and should be given to cattle if it is sick during the year. People also put scales from the fish into their wallets to attract money. And young people melt candles and pour wax into cold water, which than creates strange figures. This way you can guess what will happen to you next year (eg if you see heart you will fall in love). We recieve presents in the evening. Someone rings the bell and thats the sign they are already placed under the tree. Kids sometimes wash their eyes to see clearly what they got. There are more traditions in our country but i cant recall them now.
Merry Christmas!

Candlelight Service at church Christmas Eve.
Presents in the morning.

I will say on a side note that for several years now I decided not to go to the malls to shop. This is one" tradition" I am going to keep. I spend less and have more time to enjoy other things.

Christmas Eve I go to Christmas Eve night church service. Than after that I go to my Grandmas' house, where my family gets together, we take turns exchanging and opening the gifts that we received. On Christmas morning I spend it with my mom. Then we go to her boyfriends house and exchange gifts with his family. That's about it.

The usual stuff you know? Have diner first, then open the presents, at midnight preaching a quick prayer cause my aunt it's such a religious freak and eat & drink till we pass out!
