Yes, it is. Granville Island is practically in the middle of Vancouver, and is full of funky little shops and boutiques plus a huge farmer's market. From Granville Island you can take the Aquabus (a little water bus) that runs from Science World at the foot of False Creek, to Granville Island, the Maritime Museum, Sunset Beach and several other spots along the way. It zig zags from one side of the Creek to the other. If your friend is interested in skiing, Grouse, Seymour, Hollyburn and Cypress ski hills are all there. If he wants to hop on a bus, he can tour the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics at Whistler ski resort. But back in Vancouver, there are lots of tourist attractions, ranging from Stanley Park and the Aquarium to the Teahouse at Ferguson Point, the University of BC Museum of Mankind, which has some magnificent pieces of First Nations work; Richmond's Buddhist Temples and enormous oriental markets and bazaars are good fun for shopping -- the list goes on and on. Check out HelloBC.com for a few more suggestions. Why don't you come with your friend. You'd both enjoy Vancouver!

It's a great place for all age and interests although summer is the better time to visit.
It has a great food market that sells seafood, produce, local specialties, meats and baked goods. The Granville Island micro brewery has a shop there and offers tours and tastings. There are arts and hand made crafts not available in malls. The shops are unique and even offers some historical fact about the place, merchandise and people. There is a variety of restaurants, pubs and bars. One or two places even offer music and entertainment.
The only thing bad is getting in and out of there as the entrance and exit are both conjested a lot of times.

I just wanted to agree with the others and say, yes, Granville Island is a great place to visit. There you will find lots of arts and crafts, artists workshops, food market, restaurants, theatres, and pubs. If you can, try and go during the week rather than on the weekend, it is less crowded then.

Granville Island is in midtown Vancouver and is a trendy spot for boutiques and has the largest market in the city, there is a number of restaurants and is a tourist hot spot, when I was a chef and worked at the Hotel Vancouver I used to go and pick up things for my Ex Chef, as I was the Sous chef in charge of the fine dining restaurant.
Tell them it is a place to be seen and they will enjoy the adventure.

vancouver isnt very cold at all. They are usually much hotter than the rest of canada. In calgary it was 13 degrees today, and I thought it was pretty hot! It may not be like florida, but I think its cool to have the weather change a little bit, instead of just hot and sunny every single day. I will admit that vancouver is very expensive though. But if I had the choice between vancouver and florida, of course I would say florida lol, who wouldnt?

Yes, it's a great place to go. Tell you friend to go early in the morning, around 9. It's much less crowded then and you can still find a place to park.
