I'm not sure whether to buy a traditional highchair (space is an issue), or a booster seat with tray (these look uncomfy). What have you used, and what would you recommend?

i have a Mothercare deluxe booster seat that reclines for smaller babies. It has a detachable tray. I paid £17 for it in June this year but It was in the sale. It is normally £34 but I would definitely recommend it.
Or if your baby can support his/her head, what about a Bumbo?(the sort of soft plastic seat that looks like a potty!!) My son sat in that for meals till he was about 1. He is nearly 2 now and he sometimes still sits in it to watch Noddy! I think it was about £20.

Don't look at price or name. Look for it's qualities. I was given an Evenflo brand (3 years ago) for my son which I still have and use now for 7 month old. What I love the most about it as that it reclines to 3 different positions. Which makes it safe and easy to use when your baby isn't sitting up yet. I started my son and my daughter both at three and a half months. I would use a blanket to help hold them on the sides, but the recline position made it needless to have to do that. It also folds in a standing position so that it isn't sticking out and the tray is removable and latches to the back when it is in the standing/folded position. It also has 8 different height adjustments which really isn't necessary but can come in handy if you are sitting at different height levels (you don't have to lean over so much).

Your best bet is a highchair, you can buy folding ones now that can easily be stored away.I used to have a booster seat one for my son and he always looked uncomfortable in it. Dont use a highchair though until your baby is able to support its own back, until then your baby should be alright being fed from a bouncer or in your arms.

My experience has been that a bouncy seat works well until about 9 months of age, then they want to start putting the food in their own mouth, so put them into a high chair and chop up little bits of food and let them eat it from the tray. I recommend a plain wood high chair, those plastic ones are cute, but they retain all sorts of little particles of food. A wood high chair has no hidden crevices for nasty stuff to grow. There are plastic covers you can get for the tray for ease of cleaning, and dishwasher use. The plus is that they match your dining room set and when baby is 2, they can scoot it up to the big table and eat on a regular plate with the rest of the family.

Just make the amount that a baby food jar would hold, those porportions usually work pretty well. I give my son formula as well. He will eat his cereal and drink an ounce or two of formula until hes completly full. Keep in mind at that age more food ends up on the baby then in the baby! Dont add more than a teaspoon of cereal in his formula bottle if you choose to take that route. This way its not a choking hazard but he gets a little more substance with his formula

I have the Chicco 'Happysnack' high chair which is smaller than most and folds away nicely and is cheap!! My sone has been in it since 6 months (even though he was not yet sitting up) - prior to this we used a 'bumbo' - a rubber potty type seat. Bouncer chair can be an option but my son learned how to bounce in it at an early age so was no good for feeding him in!

I was short of space so got a high char that folds flat and could be kept against a wall or in the cupboard easily. I made the mistake of buying a fabric one though which is a pain to clean so get a vinyl on that wipes clean easy!

I got a wonderful high chair from friends at my husbands work. It has turned out to be a wonderful high chair for me and my dear son. It is an Evenflo Expressions high char. It has a height adjuster, 2 trays (one pops out and is dishwasher safe) and you can adjust the position of the seat too. It is fold-able and does so easily. We've found we like it's so portable because we go to my parents house, and we can take our high chair with us! It's been a great chair. You should get one. Again, it is an Evenflo Expressions high chair.
