The car has 118,xxx miles & I began having a problem w/starting a year ago. An aftermarket alarm was installed before I bought it in 01.The car wouldn't turn over sometimes & I'd wait 15min then it would.Thought it was the alarm or a loose connection so took it to the dealer b/c I don't know the mechanics in the area(my 1st mistake). They replaced the ignition switch cylinder.Worked ok for 3wks.Then after starting & driving 3x,got back it to start it & radio came on but when I went to turn it over, everything went dead.Tried to jump, no good, towed back to dealer. They disconnected the alarm.Worked for 3wks.Now-radio,lights come on but need to jump every other day . Car now very sluggish & once in awhile I get a tiny surge when idle that's when I need to jump it. Had battery, alternator checked-GOOD.Man asked if I knew that the cat.convert was going bad.No I didnt.Gas gage was broke for 2yrs stayed at E.Had sensor replaced in tank, went to F,now wont drop passed 1/2 tank.HELP ME PLEASE

I am sorry to tell you this, but this car isn't hopeless, but it is going to cost YOU a lot, because you can't do the repairs yourself. You have to PAY someone else to do it, and sounds like you are having problems finding a mechanic or shop with integrity.
This may be one of those times you just bite the bullet and trade the little car in and cut your losses.
ANY time yo deal with a car with an aftermarket security system, you are vulnerable, because neither you or a subsequent tech knows what kind of security system is installed, and how it interfaces with the computer and ignition switch and car's power.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas

removing the cat converter will improve the two torque and HP; i don't be attentive to by ability of ways plenty. i could snort in regards to the remark that cats "recycle gas" yet i'm afraid too a lot of people could have faith it. sure cutting-side digital engines self music some yet older ones like my '87 Toyota p/u have not got that. you will desire to purchase an oxygen sensor and a minimum of improve or retard the ignition timing, observing the voltage the O2 sensor caught into the exhaust pipe is. The whopping fines are the only element making me hesitate from putting a pretend cat in.

have the alarm removed obviously was wired incorrectly, and have the dealership look over the wires that were tapped into. next if your cat conv is bad car will be sluggish, have them replaced too and you will be in good shape
