I dont know your area but a tip that might help you Is that they compete for you to be a customer,I did telemarketing many years ago and they would start with a high number but If you say no and you are going to check out other services they compete ,remember Its not the Installation that counts Its the service they are after.
Again you may not want the cheapest because cheap Is not always the best,I like local because the signal Is faster and you get better responce

Common Sense.
Case out your own property. Does it appeal to a potential thief?
Is stuff easy to get to? Don't advertise what isn't for sale as the saying goes. Don't announce to the whole neighborhood when you leave. Be more discreet.
Use lights if you are not going to be home till after dark, turn on radios, tv's etc. Motion sensor flood lights outdoors.
Last but not least Smith & Wesson .38 special. Know how to use it properly.

I played Brinks and ADT against each other and got a better deal with ADT. They have me THREE keypads, a glass-break and motion sensors (plus all the doors and windows), and installed it all for the same price as Brinks would have only given me two keypads with the doors and windows. THEN they only charged me $50 to install the cell-phone-backup system in the attic, so if my phone line gets cut it uses the cell phone to call ADT... So far I've had one break-in and three false alarms (my fault) and they've been EXCELLENT.

Good size dog out in the yard. Most criminals case places before they act. They do not like the harassment of a dog. Ours doesn't bit & not huge, about 55 lbs. But he looks like he just might. Never have a problem.
