Roller or ice skating rink. We have Sports rinks that have lots of activities for that age. Dave & Buster's has games. They give you a game director that puts together team competitions. The local cinema has birthday packages. Try Boca Italian... lots of fun there. If it's a girl, you could do a sleep over. I gave my niece one at a hotel where there was in indoor pool and a game room. Have other trusted adults to help. The more rooms you use the better. Give each room it's own theme and decorate accordingly.

Have Fun!

Your home; for a variety of reasons.

1. less stress for the child
2. Weather considerations
3. Less trouble carrying supplies and presents back and forth
3. Business places could be overcrowded and distractive.
4. If only a few people show up? Well the child is at least in the comfort of his or her home.

(When the child is older (maybe 9) you and he or she can have fun venturing out for a birthday. Birthdays are certainly important to children, but so is their emotional security at a young age.)
