Ovulation is when an ovary releases an egg that can be fertilized within 12-24 hours. It normally happens once in a menstrual cycle and generally around the second week after the first day of your period.

Ovulation.
Its when the ovary ripen and release an egg (or ovum) into the fallopian tube which connect the overies to the uterus (or womb). It will wait in this tube for 24-36 hours to be fertalized by sperm cell before it is no longer viable.
From there it is passed into the uterus. If it is fertalized it will implant in the wall of the uterus and a pregnancy will begin, or, if it is not fertalized, it will be shed with the uterine lining as a period.
Ovulation is the cause of a period, or pregnancy. Its part of a womans monthy cycle, which ends in a period.
