there is a special carbon paper u buy and u put it between the pattern and the material and then use the wheel to put the the pattern onto the material.

Hi:

It works like this: you needle hold your pattern on the fabric allow a little extra fabric so you can cut it off { about 1/8 to 1/4 of of a inch} then you take the tracing wheel and press the Sprocket wheel along the edge of the pattern, Moving it along the edge of the pattern, on all sides tracing the pattern out, when you remove the needle out and remove the pattern you should see little pin holes and creases of where you traced the patterned out. use a pen or marker you trace and connect the dot up and you start cutting it out.

And that is how a tracing wheel works

I don't have time to explain the process now. Someone will help you I'm sure. I just have to tell you iroc70 is totally wrong. Don't ever cut your pattern any bigger than the pattern calls for!
