Look at the current system. We have two completely opposite parties which continue to butt heads and cannot work together. If we had, let's say, four major parties instead, there would be more moderates which could help the extreme thinkers work together.

I'm at work, so I can't post an elaborate response; however, the Founding Fathers were suspicious of political parties because they feared the negative effects produced by selfish factions ("special interest groups," in today's parlance). I will also venture that the Founders feared that the special interests of political parties would obviate the necessary concern of guarding America's founding principles. Lo and behold! We now have a multitude of gibbering special interest groups who holler about "gay rights" and "animal rights," often without offering any rational argument as to how such rights ought to be articulated and why they should be protected.

Long story short: America has fallen, and I doubt she'll be able to get up.
