I just had this conversation with my husband.

His father died almost 30years ago. LONG before I met my hubby. Had he still been alive, my husband would most likely have gone to a college and finished. (There was no money for anything after his dads death). Which means he wouldnt have had to take a second job and i never would have met him and we never would have had our daughter.

So yes, i belive everything happens for a reason. It may not be apparent today, or tommorow or even in our own life time.

I really believe that certain things do happen for a reason even the very bad! Its hard to make sense of it at the time but every little thing that happens or has happened makes us who we are! I think we do learn by our mistakes or should.
As I get older I can look back and see where I learnt something, its a bit like remembering a teacher who taught you something you never forget.
I think your bad choice idea is right. We learn it was a bad choice but at the time we probably think it's a good one.

I believe things happen for a reason and we should grow because of that reason.

I had problems with judgeing others and I was stuborn In many eras untill some of the things that I judged others for happened to me.

I learned a lot and my life would have been differant but It Is never to late to change your ways.

Change Is not Change without change and I wish I knew this a longggggg time ago

If there was a hypothetical "2nd Universe" which had an infinately powerful computer in it and that computer contained data for all matter in our Universe it could "simulate" our Universe and predict our future with 100% accuracy.

Things don't happen for a reason, but everything anybody ever does has significance. No matter how small, whatever you do, or don't do, will effect everything in our Universe for the rest of Eternity.

Do I think there's some grand cosmic plan that dictates that everything has to happen for a specific reason in order to achieve the "final game plan"?

No. But I do think a reason can be found for everything, even if that reason is something as simple as "What can be learned from this experience for future reference."

Always there is a reason. For instance, the person who answered this question first used the example of a girl getting beat up. Maybe the girl who lost went on to college because she was so affected by that beating that she wanted to prove to the world that she was worth something. Maybe she majored in teaching, got a job as a 4th grade teacher, and prevented another girl from getting beat up. Maybe this new girl who lost was the teacher's daughter, who from this experience said something which affected the original girl's life. Maybe the 4th grade girl said, "Thanks Mom. It's cool when you do stuff like that." Maybe the original girl was brought to Christ because she wanted to live her life for God and for her children. Maybe this all happened because of a 6th grade bully. I think it did happen. It happened to me. Everything has meaning.

yes everything has a reason and believe me I wonder why at times just like everyone else. these are learning experiences and are what make a person unique for no one will react the exact same way to anything. similar perhaps but not exactly. one needs to take advantage of what one has learned applying the wisdom and knowledge to future situations.

I used to think that was true but actually I think the reason people like to say that is because it's easy. If something goes wrong in life you can just say "oh well, it's happened for a reason". It's a bit of a cop out I think.

No, there is no great cosmic plan for us all. There is no fate, though it may sometimes seem that way. There are no gods benign or otherwise. While its true that life can be a b*tch, its just life, we have to make the best of what comes our way, or what we can find. We learn from lives experiences but we are not being taught by some higher being, its just life.

Every event happens as a consequence of previous events Does that imply reason or just consequence. What happens to one induvidual could of couse be caused by what happened earlier to a different individual, through no choice of our own.
If it helps, one philosophy holds that no one ever makes a bad decision as it is made based on what they know at the time.
