The secret to the Bond films rested on a clever formula, approved and penned by Ian Flemming himself: Watching any two Bond films can show you this in the very first moments of the films; they're pretty much a standard in ALL of them.

Another interesting facet of the Bond film series is how smart it was to pit Bond w/ current event enemies. In the beginning, Bond squared off against manicial warped ego-monger terrorists (Goldfinger, Dr. No, Moonraker), then he took on Russian cold war baddies, (Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Living Daylights). Note how Goldeneye not only launched Pierce Brosnan as a worthy Bond actor, but the film entwined the manical ego tripping bad guy(s) w/ old Russian (post) cold war adversaries....and some "between the fence" alliances as well.

The "newest" Bond flim, a redux (the orginal was a comedic Bond parody) of Casino Royale signals the Bond/Flemming franchise is currently working out a newer type of Bond bad guy that is sown w/ today's sinister current events we face in real life---most likely the middle east terrorist genre. That should prove interesting.

Story-telling skills improved, as well as special effects.

the real problem was upping the ante int he realm of gimmicks.

You can also see a kind of MTV approach with editing.

Die Another Day had a lot of fast edits and speed-up.

the ones from the 70s were a bit more laid-back
