Well did you cut the bottom of the tree off before you placed it in the watering pot. If not that is the reason, a christmas tree will leak sap to the bottom of the tree and create a scab basically! So you have to remove the bottom or else it won't soak up any of the water! The other thing is never water you tree with cold water make sure it's room temp or a little warm!

Because once they are cut off from their roots, they start to die. Its inevitable. Water and even food (just like with flowers and flower food) sustains them a little longer than nothing at all, but they will still die. 2 weeks sounds like the standard life of a cut tree, actually. Cut flowers usually only last a week and a half.

Two weeks is a good time for a tree. Why did you put it up so darn early?Couple day's before xmas and day after new years is all they should be up. Anylonger and your will have a dead tree.Year's ago a tree went up xmas eve and down new years day or a day later, depending on your hangover.

the same reason why cut flowers last less than 2 weeks, its roots have been removed and therefore it cannot feed and take in water properly.
