I've done a lot of mold and asbestos abatement (I'm in construction). First find out if the wall is leaking. If so refer to the landlord.
Barring that mix up a bleach solution 10% with water and wash the affected wall(s). When dry there will still be residue which you can cover, I'd recommend a product called Killz. You can get it at most any home improvement outlet and its what professionals use.
This is going to be stinky operation so be prepared.
