During the active phase of any addiction, the addict is very selfish. With their time and their emotions. They will stop at nothing to continue using no matter who gets hurt. So I would have to say my drinking was my most selfish act, along with the suicide attempts when I COULDN'T stop.
Peace.
MERRY CHRISTMAS MY LITTLE PET!!

I have 2 pillows on my queen size bed: a super-soft heavenly plush down pillow & a normal run-of-the mill standard issue pillow. When my boyfriend sleeps over (which is often) I take the soft pillow & give him the crappy one. Sometimes he tries to sneak the soft one away but I feel the difference & yank my pillow out from under his slumbering head.
It is selfish. I admit it.
Here's the thing. I am a loving, generous, passionate, fiercely loyal person. The people that I love, I love with my whole heart. But I have to look out for number one. I come first. I can not love someone more than myself. I can't give anyone that much power. If my boyfriend leaves me (for example over the pillow issues, tee hee!) I would be devestated but I would survive. No matter what, I still have me. Some people put themselves last. This isn't healthy as a human being. You can't survive this way. If you deplete yourself & treat yourself like garbage you end up ill, miserable, falling apart. & if you fall apart you won't be there for your loved ones anyway (children, family, friends etc.) Take care of you, then everyone else. Then again, I don't have kids. Maybe that would change my perspective. But I don't plan on having them. Perhaps that's another example of my selfishness. (I can't imagine having children & not being able to sleep in! Plus, I can't imagine the enormous responsibility of raising another human. Too overwhelming...)
Anyway, I'm buying my boyfriend a nice down pillow (among other things!) for Christmas so we won't have to fight over the soft one!
I can't think of any other concrete examples of my selfishness... I'm good to those I care about. I know how to say no however, when I need to. I know how to set boundaries. I am in control of my life. Some people let others walk all over them. I don't do that. That's not selfish, that's self-preservation. Assertiveness. Strength.

I know that the world is suffering from overpopulation - I still went ahead and got born.
My loved ones want me around forever - I still went ahead and died.

I don't need to prove it, people should be able to work it out by themselves without my help!

I sometimes avoid knowing too much about people because I find them too needy, and their needs too trivial to pay any attention to.
