The Sports industry is a multi-billion doller industry, so the players are the people who fund the industry so, their salaries are in the millions of dollers while the common public is making less than fifty thousand dollers.

I won a contest some years back where I got to play bball with Jamal Crawford, Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. Other than that, I have bumped into Bill Cartwright, Tim Floyd and Bj Armstrong around the Chicagoland area. I'd love to meet Lebron, KG and Derrick Rose.

Most athletes have a limited amount of time to make money in their chosen profession, and the market is willing to pay them millions of dollars, so they have every right to try to get as much as the market is willing to compensate. Some athletes are not always wise in the way they handle their millions, but that can be said for others in regular society as well.
Also, if we are looking to find fault here, blame the people who pay the outrageous ticket and concession prices as opposed to donating the money to the needy (although I think it is their right to spend their dollars on such if they so choose) before we raise skepticism on athletes' salaries.

Fans and businesses (advertising) are willing to pay the price for the product that supports the production cost (althete saleries). Atheletes are only consuming the revenue available to them. Atheletes can not earn more than the available revenue in the sports market is able to pay. Alternatively, athletes would be financially remiss in accepting less than the market will bear, which is proven to be quite astounding. Ask yourself, would you work for less than you could get from your employer?

They make very little compared to the amounts that their sports generate. It's justifiably in the fact that these atheletes have incredible skills. The owners on the other hand were just rich enough to buy a team which just makes them richer.

The owners make millions of dollars. Why shouldn't the players get a piece of that? Moreover, most professional athletes started out life as poor.

They make so much money because the sport makes so much money. Tickets, concessions, advertisement, television, it all adds up to insane amounts of cash.
It is only right that the players get their fair share of this money.
If you want to argue about ridiculus salaries then you cannot just target pro athletes. You have to go after movie stars, CEO's, investors ect..

I agree it has gotten out of hand. On the other hand, they have a very short career & a lot of former athletes are broke in their old age.
