Here are some possible reasons for a false positive, but the best answer is to go see your doctor. You must have taken the pregnancy test for a reason - in other words, you think you might be pregnant.
Chemical Pregnancy
A chemical pregnancy is basically an early miscarriage. Research has shown that half of all first pregnancies end in miscarriage. Due to the high sensitivity of home pregnancy tests, many women catch early pregnancies but end up going on to have their periods due to a chemical pregnancy.
Missed Reaction Time
For accuracy in home pregnancy tests it is essential that you read the test results in the stipulated reaction time. If you let the test sit for too long (after the instructions on the box tell you), the test is invalid. This may cause it to show false positive results.
Chemical Interference
Drugs that have the pregnancy hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in them can cause incorrect results in home pregnancy tests. The Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in them may be responsible for the false positive pregnancy test. If you have had an HCG shot due to infertilty treatments, you need to be sure the shot is out of your system before you attempt to use early pregnancy tests.
Evaporation Lines
While technically not a true pregnancy, some pregnancy tests leave a faint evaporation line as the urine crosses the test. This faint very light grey evaporation line in the test area is often interpretted as a positive result.

There are a few reasons. I'm not familiar with how your surgery affects ovulation, so it would be best to address these concerns with your doctor.
A common thing is ectopic or tubular pregnancy. I'm not sure about the efficiency of your surgery, so once again, talk to your doctor about the possibility of becoming pregnant.
The pregnancy test utilizes detection of the hormone hCG, and this hormone although usually secreted by the placenta, can be secreted by other sources. One source is hydatiform mole, in which an egg is fertilized and a placenta grows, but the placenta grows into a mass. This is not a real pregnancy.
There are also tumors that can secrete hCG. See your doctor, express your concerns, and he will most likely perform an ultrasound and possibly a CT scan to see what is going on.

There are certain medicines that can cause a false positive on a pregnancy test . If you have a positive pregnancy test after having your tubes tied, you need to see a doctor. Especially if you have missed a menstrual period. Tubal pregnancies are common in women who have had their tubes tied and can be dangerous.

There is still a chance for pregnancy, I knew someone who had a baby after, and her husband had, had a vasecomy, there are no reasons I know of for a false positive. If it is it's always been a pregnancy, sorry.

A friend that I worked with had her tubes ties and burned and nine years later got a big surprise. It can happen, your doctor should have told you that even though you had that done there is still a small chance that you can still have kids. Either way take it as a somthing that was ment to happen if you are preg. And that other answer was right. A preg test is never a false pos, only false negs. I worked in a lab for a very long time.

Maybe the test was wrong? Some tests are bad about giving false positives. Did you read the test after 10 minutes? It could be an evaporation line.
Go to http://www.peeonastick.com/
They give pretty good info about different brands of pg tests, which ones are trust worthy and which ones are not.

There have been documented instances where the test came out positive, but the woman was not pregnant, I do not remember what they called it but basically the women wanted babies so bad that their bodies started creating the baby hormone with out being pregnant-
In your case though, you are probably pregnant, one of the wonderful things about god, if he says ur having one, your gunna have one.

some type of an infection is found in the urine that pregnant women get when they are pregnant and that is how the test comes out positive. you might want to check any urinating tract infections or any infections at all.
