I find that the Virusscan is disabled frequently. I switch it on but it switches itself off. Is this typical or do I have malware issues.

Yes it is possible that some malware try to shut down virus scans. You have to scan your computer thoroughly using an external program using either a bootable cd or by removing your hard disk and attaching it to another computer as a slave disk. The virus programs get active when the computer boots therefore it is better to scan the hard disk while it is inactive. You should also use some free online virus scan if you have a good internet connection.

Sounds like something is turning it off. Try running a couple of spyware/adaware scans.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
