Rather than spend the money to take it to a mechanic if it's something simple, stop by AutoZone in your area. They have a diagnostic system that they'll use to find the code for what's wrong for free. Then you can take it to a mechanic and go "I need my ___ fixed." and you won't be paying for the mechanic to go exploring.
Good luck!

Go to Dvanced auto parts, Or Auto zone and get tham to hook up a scanner to your cars computer. They will tell you what made the light come on for free.
When the check engine light comes on in any car it doesn't mean there is always something wrong.
Some cars are designed to have the check engine light come on after certian miles have been put on it. It just may need the code erased to take care of the problem. They will do this check for free at those locations

I had a cavalier before I had my truck, and it was a reliable car.
The check engine light usually meant the engine was overheated, so check the coolant, but it could also many any number of different things. There are a few recalls and special policies from GM that you can get done, and that might eliminate the check engine light coming on. Just call GM directly and give them the VIN #, they can tell you about any open campaigns (recalls) or special policies.
(I worked for GM for three years in Warranty Support).
If you don't do anything else, take the car to a good reliable mechanic. He can hook up your car to the diagnostic computer and tell you exactly what the problem is.
Good Luck !!!

i own a repair shop, and all this is doing ,is telling you it had an intermittent fault with a sensor,,and it will need to be checked out or scanned so that the fault or the sensor can be found,,its usually not nothing real serious,it could be as simple as a 0-2 sensor on it,,but it just flashes to let you know there was a problem encountered with the computer during this period of time,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

It's probably a bad sensor. One time my mom's came on and she didnt have the gas cap on right. The best thing to do is take it to a parts store and get it ran on the diagnostic. That will tell you anything thats wrong with the car.

It could indicate a number of things. Your Chevy dealer service shop will have a reader for that to diagnose the problem.

if it's the yellow check engine light, it dosen't mean crap. it is an emission signal. it's the red engine light you have to worry about. take it to someplace like auto zone, or advance auto, and they will turn it off for you, prob. at no charge, don't worry about it..btw, i'm goodwrench certified. lol.

It could be a much more serious problem and should be taken to a shop for a computer diagnostic.
