There are 6 wards in Houston
1st ward is Near the courthouse downtown, Drive down Lubbock till you cross the train tracks, it's a Latino community.
2nd Ward is Off I-45 south from downtown Houston, Exit Telephone, and head East, It's also a Latino community.
3rd Ward is South Central Houston, off I-45 south exit Scott, It's where University of Houston and Texas Southern University are. If you see those two colleges, your in 3rd ward.
4th Ward is down Allen Parkway, exit Grey. They have revitalized it and most of it has high rises and Starbucks everywhere.
5th ward is off I-10 East exit Waco, make a left.
6th ward is between 1st ward and 4th ward, it has been revitalized also and is considered a historic district. It's directly across the street from the courthouse on Lubbock

Wards are areas of town.3rd ward is near Scott Street and is between I-45 and the 610 Loop,
4th Ward is also close to downtown but is between I-59 and I-45.
5th Ward is straight down Market St. into downtown Houston past an area called the Heights. So, basically they are all areas inside the 610 loop which is a freeway that that goes completely around downtown Houston. If want to get around town in Houston chances are you will have to get on the loop to get to all the other freeways IE. I-59 North or South,I-10 East or West, and I-45 North or South which goes to Galveston.
The Wards are typically a very poor area of town and get the least amount of help from the city as far as education, road work etc. They are mostly old white people that have been there all their lives and are dying off, poor Blacks and Mexicans. If you are not from Houston, my advise is to ask where it is you need to go.You DON'T want to get lost in these neighborhoods if you are white or naive. There IS alot of prostitution, gangs and drugs. So, if someone tells you they are from the 3rd,4th or 5th Wards they aren't just trying to sound tough, chances are they are because of the neglect that the city of Houston has put on them.
One more thing ,I'm from the East-side which is also avoided like the plague if you have alot of money and value possessions more than the suffering and hardships of human beings.

wards are nothing but where the working class people used to live during the early days of big cities. when people made more money and could afford to move out of the city, they created suburbs...which forced poor minorities inward. some historians explain it as "White Flight." but they've been called wards for a long time, and it's OK to be in them....just don't offend anyone.
some of the areas of the historical Wards are not acctually that bad and have been upscaled to get rid of those who are struggling and replace them with more upper class folks.
H-Town local did a good job of explaining them all, but I'm a southsider so I would explain 3rd Ward as being inside the Loop and East of 288. people from 3rd Ward associate a little more with 288 than 45.

Where are the wards in Houston, Texas?
I always hear people say "I represent the 5th ward" or "I rep 3rd ward." Can you tell me where all of the wards are in Houston, Texas?

The wards a very close to downtown Houston. Off of I-45. They are the poorest of the poor and lots of gangs, drugs, fights and murders.

I'm not from here. I think people here are trying to make themselves sound "good" or "tough" or something. I don't know what "the ward" is either.
