have bad back ache
i am nrly 39 weeks pregnant
what could this be

baby has very little room to move at this point~ just be sure to keep track that you do feel him moving.
the tightening you feel is most likely braxton-hicks contractions. it is your uterus keeping toned and ready for delivery.
niggly pains, as you put it, happen frequently in late pregnancy, since you are hitting max capacity there, and pressure is being put practically everywhere.
just try to take it easy, well hydrated, and positive. you will *know* when it is time to give birth.

I had contractions with no Pain
I went to doc and was 6 cm dilated
but everyone is different, you should check with doc

Braxton-Hicks contractions...they are preparing you for "real" contractions.
