Matter is not created or destroyed in computers. Think of a computer as a giant chalk board, except it writes all information in 0s and 1s (binary code). The chalk board (computer hardrive) has all the space it needs pre laid out. Nothing created here, except from the computer manufacturer. So, we tell it to install Windows (eat me Mac users). The computer writes a few hundred million 0s and 1s on it's chalk board (it's hardrive). Now, when we delete windows, simply erase the 0s and 1s from the chalk board. Now we are not using as much of the chalk board (computer hardrive) as we were when we had Windows installed.
Now, if you wanna get REALLY tricky, try this. Sometimes when you erase from a chalk board, you can still see what was previously there. Same with a hardrive. It's like having several chalkboards on top of each other. To truly erase a hardrive, I think you have to wipe it 7 times.
Hope this analogy helped. I think I confused myself a bit . . .

That theory of physics means that in a system the sum total of mass and energy remains the same- i.e. matter cannot be created out of nothing and destroyed to create a vacuum or nothingness.
Matter and energy are converted to other forms by physical, chemical and natural processes. In computers what we have is information stored in electronic state- i.e. in terms of absence or presence of a signal 0 or 1. When we run the computer and store information the electricity is used to store information in disks, dvd, cd or print form. So electrical energy is converted to other form (digital form). Similar is the case with deletion.

Because it's not matter. You don't think that that paper you typed up is actually stored as a piece of paper on your computer, and that the printer is the magic box that sends it out, do you?

It is transformed.
Like coal (carbon) to heat+carbon dioxide. Oxygen come from air.
In case of computer energy is use and we perform certain operations using key board. Or automatic programmes that kick in.
