p.s I feel that Law Degrees are a waste of time.. very few people enter the profession afterwards; the courses are over subscribed and studying for one often gives people an over-inflated sense of self!!

No! They give you a decent standard of education. They show that you're at least competent enough to get a degree. Having one gives you a competitive advantage over those that don't have one. So what if your preference as to what your carear should be changes over time after you got your first degree

In California I believe they still have the old fashioned option of "reading the law" where you work with an attorney for a while then sit for your bar exam. It's kind of like an apprenticeship program. You can tell your friends you went to a glorified trade school even if it is Harvard School of Law. I'm an engineer on ships. I sailed unlicensed for 7 years before I got my engineer's license. You can do the college route and get a degree but I didn't feel it was worth thousands of dollars I didn't have.
Most liberal arts degrees are nothing more than glorified Finishing Schools giving you a patina of culture that most people forget about once they get their degree anyway!

Hi Barrister,
Having a degree shows an employer you have the ability to learn and retain information to a high level.
I have a degree in mechanical engineering, an LLB and a masters degree in quality management.
The law degree is so helpful when doing contract review or dealing with employees and customers. As a manager I feel doing a law degree was one of the best career moves I ever made,(Except studying equity and trusts, I still have nightmares about it!) even though I have never practiced law as a profession.
I love consumer law and tort. Especially tort c/w problem neighbours. I have had all kinds of fun with them, this is why I don't get any hassle from my neighbours. No loud noise or late parties. Absolute bliss.
I have followed the path of my degree studies overall though, I am in engineering.

There are a lot of degrees which are meaningless such as BLA ( a bachelor's in liberal arts, i.e general studies). HOWEVER, working on a degree (any degree) is good experience and self-discipline in itself and if an employer of even a meaningless job has the choice between hiring a college grad or high school grad, well the college person would get the job.

I dont think the degree itself is supe rimportant. What IS valuable to is the experience you gain while going to collge, meeting other people, hearing points of view that are different from your own, expanding your horizons. I think that most employers dont care about your major as much as they care that you showed the dedication to make it through something reasonably difficult. In this case a law degree is far more impressive than one in say education. (I have a master's in education so I am allowed to joke about it being a joke). Anyway I think that when you consider the slim percentage of the population that actually finishes school and gets a degree, that degree at least says SOMETHING about you.

I have a BA Honours degree in English and still no one will employee me for anything worth doing. I have been turned down for school leaver jobs because I have no 'admin experience' (although I have worked in an office for over a year now). So I'm still stuck as a teller (my company won't promote me either) having customers be rude to me all day long. Worst of all, now I resent doing the job because I am over qualified for it.

It's the ghost stories is a waste of time.
The knowledge on skills is Ok.
But to make the skills alive is a problem.
When the dead was dead and buried was long gone with time in planet of apes.
So we need our creator to help out.
But the men who would be king with self prides, self lack of knowledge, self rudeness and self discrimination of self racism all kick the butts of our creator in planet of apes
Wonder who screwed up human lives of their own children all living in misery with the dead at the graveyards in planet of apes.
