M daughter started saying "mama" at around 6 months, but it was just a sound at that point. She's now almost 14 months and she's starting to say "mommy" instead, it's too cute. I would wager a guess that your baby knows that you are "mama" as well.

im sure he/she is mine all said it at like 4 and 5 months old by 11 months they were able to ask for things not that your baby is behind as my 15 month old just says uuuhhhh and points she can talk but if her daddy doesnt tell her to say what she wants we end up starting over again when you give your baby a cup say look hunny cup have them watch your mouth... have your baby look at you and say momma, then turn her to some thing else and say what it is after a few weeks your little one will be able to name everything including you around them..

They usually start making that sound at 6-8 months... so i'd say yes, he really is.
I would imagine he also connects the word to the person by this point. Or is atleast starting to.

I bet the baby is saying Mama. Both of my children started saying meaningful words at 11 months. (Daddy, doggy, ball, kitty....)

There is a strong possibility. I'm sure people around you refer to you as mama to him. I'm sure he recognizes you and he identifies you with that word. My daughter can say it but I don't think she knows what she's saying. SHe just turned 9 months. Either way CONGRATULATIONS!!

Some babies say mama that early. They all are on their own time in developement. It's totally possible though.
