My prepaid plan is from Verizon, it's called Verizon INpulse.
They give you unlimited nights (from 9:01pm to 5:59am) and unlimited mobile to mobile with anyone else in the Verizon network (pay as you go or monthly contract, doesn't matter which one the other person has, you can still talk to them for free at any time of the day).
It's 10 cents a minute to talk to someone if it isn't past 9pm or if the other person doesn't have Verizon. 10 cents to send and recieve texts. They also take 99 cents out of your account each night.
The prepaid cards cost from $15 to $150 and you can buy any phone Verizon has to offer and make it prepaid.
I spend around $30 on one prepaid card a month which is alot cheaper than what I was spending with other prepaid services (T-Mobile, Tracfone, and Virgin Mobile).

I think you are asking about the differences between the types of these cell phones in the USA.
Prepaid plans are purchased and activated and then reloaded every 30-90 days. Common companies that provide this service are Tracfone and Net10, Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile, Cingular GoPhone, and T-Mobile Pay as you go.
Contract plans require you to sign a contract for one or two years. This means you could get a free phone, but if you change your mind after 30 days, you must pay an early cancellation fee. This plan is better if you think you will use more than 300 minutes per month.
Make sure to read, understand and follow all agreements and contracts you enter when purchasing a cell phone. The author of this answer is not a legal party in, with, to, or for, any cell phone contracts entered by the answers readers.

I have this type of cell phone and love it. No monthly bill, you can't go over your minutes...it's easy. I buy prepaid phone cards. They come $15. for 150 minutes, $30. for 300 minutes, etc. Of course I don't use it alot ...only when traveling or away from home so for me, it's perfect. I think for someone who can't keep track of minutes or go over every month, it's a good way to control how much you spend each month.

until eventually you employ thousands a minutes a month and/or do a lot of textual content messaging, pre paid is a thanks to bypass. there is not any thanks to inform a pre paid telephone quantity from a settlement telephone. i replaced into spending 80+ money a month for 2 phones on a settlement. I settled my settlement and now pay a immediately 25 cents a minute. save in options, I basically use 10 money or a lot less of time a month. One month I used basically 14 minutes on my settlement telephone. enable see 80+ money or $3.50, see my factor.

If by that you mean, should you get one, it depends on you as a person.
If you don't use your phone much, get pay as you go. However, if you rely on it a lot, get a contract.
Im on pay as you go, incidentally.
