Hi, I am a paralegal so i may be able to answer this question but i need more info. my name is Debbie by the way. OK, who has the lien? Is it the mechanic, because he can only have a lien on your car if you owed him money and he put a hold on it but he has to go through a lawyer to do that, and if he went through a lawyer it was filed in the courthouse. The only way to get it back is too pay him off and then then his attorney has to go and take the lien off and give you the paperwork. IT is actually called a judgment, meaning you cant sell anything until you pay him. If you have anymore questions or I miss understood let me know.

lidlege is full of it. Mechanics liens don't require judgments. They have no obligation to return the vehicle to you if you don't pay the bill. You're the one who has to go to court to prove them wrong.
