dont worry, this is a easy mistake to make,i hope that guy who laughed at your error deletes his sound driver or even video driver
to fix it,go to control panel>add hardware wizard>then run the wizard, when prompted answer yes you have allready attached the device and then you will be given a list of devices, scroll down until you find realtek ac97 or something similar and then double click, you will then see a dialog window and it will have a option to re-install driver..click this and follow the instructions, use the option to allow windows to find the drivers automatically...windows will then find the realtek drivers,as they are pre-installed in windows and after this your sound drivers will be installed
if you wish to use the easy option first download this...http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/,and download all the files on this page to be on the safe side(note:make a new folder and name it "realtek 1 " ,this will help you later when you need to find the drivers
once downloaded ,double click the realtek ac97 codecs file and install the drivers, this will then enable your sound and everything will be back to normal
never use system restore for situations like these, its a lazy method and it messes up with anti-virus and other updates, allways re-install the drivers, its good pratice and its the proper way
any problems let me know
good luck mate

real easy way since the drivers are reqistry is still there: go into control panel, system, click on the Hardware tab. Device Manager. Now right click on Computer. And then click on Scan for Hardware changes. This will reinstall all the missing files and detect additional hardware since the drivers will exist.

Try a google search for the realtalk website, look for the old software or re-start your pc and it might be plug and play item, or it might come up on a list of hardware to add. Try removing ur soundcard and then re starting, then add it back and re-start again.......

if you have windows xp you can use system restore. Or you can download a new driver from your soundcard manufacturer or microsoft.com
