Hello Kyle, Maybe but unlikely that the Navy will RELEASE you from DEP. See, none of the other services can touch you if you are still in the DEP. They have to wait until the 12 months is up. And, the services, drag their feet about releasing people from the DEP for 2 reasons. 1. They are pi$$ed off at you for dropping out and changing your mind. 2. They retaliate by holding your DEP contract and not releasing you until the end so that you can not jump services and get into another service - sort of an informal punishment for being not serious and wasting their time and resources to enlist you - and there is NOTHING YOU can do about it - except to complain to your CONGRESSMAN. They play the waiting game to wear you down so that after 4 - 6 months you will come back to them and say: "OK, I changed my mind. I will enlist into the Navy." Then, you will probably get a crap job - but don't hold me to it. Either stick by your word and contract or suffer the long wait. Anchors Aweigh Larry Smith Senior Master Sergeant, USAF (Ret.) First Sergeant P.S. Besides, I would never take you into the Marines anyway. All MY Marines NEVER would EVEN consider joining any other service. No other service is good enough for a MARINE. A Marine decides to become a Marine when he is 13 years old and prepares physically and mentally for 5 years until he is 18 years old and can join up. He doesn't care what the other services offer or do. He doesn't compare them. He doesn't ask for "stupid pros and cons." Nothing is more important for a person then to become a Marine. He accepts the Marine Corps on the terms of the Marine Corp. THAT, my friends and peeps is what MAKES a Marine. If you jump around and talk to the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard then you are NOT a Marine. Marines only care that the Navy is there to give them a ride on a ship. Marines only care that the Army comes in afterwards to clean up the war that the Marines win beforehand. Marines only care that the Air Force might soften up a target zone for them with some bombing. Marines don't even think about the Coast Guard. If you came into my office and told me you were just at the Navy recruiters: I would tell you to "Get the "F" out of my office." Then, I would wait for you to come back and BEG to become a Marine. Then, I would tell you to drop and give me 50 push ups and then 50 sit ups. Then, I would tell you jump up on my office chinning bar and give me 10 drop down dead hang pull ups. If you could NOT do all that; then I would send you out the door and tell you to go home and practice and only come back when you can show my you have what it takes to become a Marine. If you could do all that I would sit you down and give you a cup of coffee and tell you to put away all thoughts of the Navy and other services from your mind and come in on Saturday mornings for the next 4 weeks and show me 100 push ups, sit ups and 20 dead hang chinning bar pulls ups. Now, if you still want to be a Marine than start to prepare during the time that you are waiting out the DEP and then you will be ready to become a Marine. Go to Amazon dot com and order the "Guidebook for Marines" a used copy. Learn everything in that 450 page book while you are waiting out the DEP. Do the Daily 16 exercise DAILY. That's why it's called that. And, be prepared to be quizzed on your General Orders of a Sentry. All of it. If you are a true Marine - then, Semper Fi

Muscle tissue is heavier than fat tissue of the same amount.
Marines have to be physically strong to do what they are required to do; and they may think you do not have the physical strength it would require.
I would suggest for you to find some other way to serve the country if that is your choice.

Well, they need you to be fit. You are already underweight. Can you imagine what basic training will do to your body? Try gaining some weight and then try again.

You couldn't carry the kit for a start off. Special forces have to fight, not stand around getting killed because somebody isn't up to the job.
