I totally agree with you. When you're a child you don't care about what race is the other child you're playing with! But I think that society is the way it is because of how the government has managed the situation. For example, the problem with illegal Latin immigrants, this affects all Latin Americans, including Puertorricans who are American citizens (I'm from Puerto Rico). The racism against all the Latin Americans is huge. I think that some people have forgotten that what makes America what it is, is the diversity it has. The only pure Americans are the Native Americans, and they're not into this whole racism thing.
I heard in the news some weeks ago that in a town in Pennsylvania the only language that can be spoken is English, anyone speaking Spanish will bee fined. That's sad.

I have believed for a long time that our society, ie the government, media, etc., encourage racism. They teach us to be afraid of those who are different and to blame them for our difficulties. This is intentionally done to keep us from blaming the people who are really responsible for the problems experienced by the average American. The responsible party is the rich capitalists who consume all the resources and leave none for the rest of us, but as long as they can keep the average people blaming other races, they are safe; we don't blame them or fight back to have a fair economic system. People need to recognize the real culprit and unite against them, and this is what they don't want to happen.

Yes, society keeps throwing it back in our face. Look at all these examples that REMIND us that we have different skin:
1. Black history month (or any history month about an ethnic group)
2. Applications that have ethnic group check boxes
3. Double standards of how ethnic groups can call themselves racist names, but not allow anybody else to? (That one should ring in a few heads)
4. BET!!! (Could you imagine if there was a WET?)
The list could go on, but I think we get the point. If we stopped doing those above, pretty soon we'd forget about the color of our skin, and get back to the more important question.
What sex are you? (Just kididng)

That's kind of silly -- people make society, society doesn't make people anything.
Bigotry of all kinds comes from what people are taught by their parents, their extended family, their friends, and other local people who influence them. Those are all *people,* not some abstract thing called "society." If the people around you as you grow up are bigoted, chances are good you'll be bigoted as well. If the people around you as you grow up are tolerant, open-minded, and accepting, chances are good you'll be the same.
Society is what we as people make it, it can be good or bad -- that's up to people. Laying the blame on "society" for bigotry takes the responsibility away from the real cause -- people.

Maybe, the society makes people racist. Nevertheless, God loves everyone eventhough they may be red and yellow, black and white, they are special in God's eyes...Jesus love the little children of the world!

I think it's human nature to identify differences and then pounce on them. If were all the same race, sex, etc, we'd probaby discriminate based on height or something.
