The only way to enusre that the colony is killed is with a pesticide of some persistance.
One easy way to kill any insectect is to use common dish detergent/soap diluted in a spray bottle. When large concentrationsa re foune, just spray them all down and the surfactant will sufficate them. < 5% dilution rate is best, test it on plants if you do not want to see leaf damamge. Phytotoxicity has been reported in concentrations >3%
Oils work well for this too, standard veggie oil in solution. It works on eg masses. I've heard of people using Pam and like sprays on gypsey moth egg masses.

I don't know where you live, but I do believe that armadillos are the natural predator of these pesky little creatures.
I saw a program on this once. Check it out. Sounds like you live in the south like Tennessee where there may not be any armadillos like there is in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and as such.
I don't think you would want them in your yard as they like to dig for insects. Good luck with your situation.

Cream of Wheat. The ants will take this as food into the mound and to the queen. Once thier digestive fluids mix with the driy Cream of Wheat, it will expand (as it does in boiling water) and kill them. Rice sometimes works but is harder for ants to eat than Cream of Wheat.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
I found the information at http://www.pests.in useful.

May I suggest going to this site: http://www.biconet.com/crawlers.html
They have many, many means of natural controls.
Everything I've ordered from them has worked great.
Hope this helps,
