The thing is that Christmas isn't just about gift giving. It's about family being together sharing and loving one another. I've had more than one Christmas where we didn't have anything. One in particular I will never forget. My mother had 8 children and we got those big Nestle crunch bars wrapped in papersack squares and tied with yarn. It was the best that she could do. I was 9 years old at the time. If you each would make something from the heart. My children made rag dolls out of scraps of old clothes and pictures with glitter words and what not for each other. We even made our own Christmas cards. Go out and find sea shells or special rocks and such and make personal presents of them with words from the heart. If your children know the value of a true gift then they will appreciate what effort it would take to make things that matter. I wish I could show you some of the homemade gifts my children have made through the years. My oldest child is 28 now and I still have her things as well as my 20 and 18 year olds. It's a lifetime gift that matters.

Why not get gather everyone up and spend the entire day playing games and having fun as a family which is really what a Christmas celebration should be anyway. Make a campout in the living room that night and just be together and have fun and love eachother.

Play silly party games, lots of music. Make Christmas about the family, not the money. The children are old enough to understand, the baby too young.

I don't know if your kids are willing, but if their dad participates they may come closer to it. ( mine wouldn't have at that age)Take your family to a homeless shelter that day and serve dinner. Or go to a nursing home and sing carols. This could turn out to be the best Christmas memory they've ever had, if you can all make a memory.

if you want to buy gifts for the kids--- you could go to dollar tree and buy some toys, shampoos/conditioners, soap, candles, picture frames or whatever. everything costs one dollar each at that store. .

you could have ur older kids help you cook christmas dinner and spend quality time together as a family.

you can try going to the churches and ask for some help. hope this helps.

i am so sad well, you can make a meal together give thanks for what everyone is thankful for, have a cookie contest, each decorate and shape a cookie and jugde which is best., go caroling, tell about christmas' in the past. if u go o church you can all go together, maybe put on a play at home or reead stories of christmas day, jesus birthday, have cummunion

That's a tough one. Have you spoken to your church? They may be able to help you. You may want to volunteer at a shelter. That will show the children that x-mas is not all about the gifts.

just sit around and have the best meal that you can make and talk about old times and remember all the good things that you have. Try to stay positive.

why don't you give each other coupon books for instance: good for cleaning the house for week, and the coupons the kids give to one another good for doing your chores for one day, or good for free babysitting. At least they are free.
