I lost my brother last year in a car accident. I found a lot of my cousins on myspace...should I throw a memory party for my brother in his honor on the second anniversary of his death or on Mardi Gras weekend b/c everybody will be there? Everyone wants to get together b/c we feel that we are getting older and now having our own kids and it's ashamed that we get to see each other once a year for Mardi Gras or if someone dies...He would've been 25 last Friday. I'm his oldest sister, I'm 29 with 2 boys and everybody has kids under 4. He also had a baby but never got to meet him b/c he was born in Sept last year and my brother died in March.
What are your suggestions?

So sorry for your loss. I think it would be wonderful if you invited friends and family to honor and remember your brother. It is so hard to loose a loved one, especially one so young. I don't think when you do it is important, his birthday, the anniversary of his death or any day special to him or your family. If it works out better during Mardi Gras you can set aside a special time or dinner to honor him. Maybe ask everyone to write something or bring something they remember about him and put it in a time capsule for his child to open and read when he/she is old enough. Having pictures around sometimes lightens the mood and gets people talking about the good times they had with your brother. Wishing you strength and peace.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Those things can be really tough. Have a party in his memory. It can be anywhere, just remember that if he were still with you, he wouldn't want everyone getting emotional and stirred up. relax, remember the good times and laugh. Now you have the duty to tell his kids about all the good things your brother did in his life.

Well, you may throw a memory party just as long as you and your guest is comfortable with the idea. Afterall, it nice to remember our loved ones eventhough they are no longer with us!
