You can test for carbohydrates through several colorometric reagents. For the others, I'd recommend IR and/or Mass Spectroscopy.

Acetone Lab Test

There isn't a specific chemical test for propanone as such, but there are two experiments that you could do to confirm you had a ketone.

1. Add 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine. This will give an orange precipitate with aldehydes or ketones.

2. Add acidified potassium dichromate to a fresh sample and warm it. The colour will stay orange, showing that you didn't have an aldehyde (with which the colour would have turned green).

most lab books have sections on organic reactions. to ID acetone do the iodoform test with I2 and sodium hydroxide. you'll get a yellow precipitate. the rest look up functional group tests and you'll be fine

The general test for methyl ketones (of which acetone is one) is the Iodoform test. I2/KI solution is added to the ketone, which is then treated with NaOH, and HCCl3 (iodoform) precipitiates out. Works every time.

For more info, google or wiki "Iodoform reaction"
