Quite a few of you on here refer to Democrat/ Liberal cowardice- referring to our unwillingness to throw money and bodies at Iraq until democracy miraculously grows there. Are right-wingers really tough guys because they send others to kill and die for an ideal that is impossible? Is pig-headedness in the face of evidence of this failure a trait to be admired?

I did a 6 year hitch in the USN, buddy. So I am speaking as a veteran.

I don't care what political affiliation a soldier, marine or sailor is. I don't want anyone to die (including plenty of my friends still in the Navy) for some idiot politician's failed vision.

The fight for freedom of speech isn't going on in Iraq. Look at what your boy Newt said lately on the topic.

Ruth, peace can be achieved through diplomacy. Remember the war we fought with the USSR? There wasn't one because our ideas were stronger than our weapons. I've never "derrogated" anyone, to my knowledge. As a former Sailor, I have nothing but respect for the troops and the job that they do. That is why I believe it so important to not use the military unless it is truly crucial.

To the former USMC who answered...I did serve and I ask that question every day. It's not just "those who didn't serve" as you say, rather I think it's "those who practice reason above partisanship who ask it.

When I see a question like this, I wonder whether I should even bother to answer.
Proverbs says, "a fool answers a fool. And a fool doesn't answer a fool."
Conservatives believe the greatest peace is gained by the strongest military. In effect, I suppose that would equate to "hiding behind our troops."
It is your attitude which derrogates our troops.
Peace can be gotten no other way. God bless our troops.

To be a veteran, you are very arrogent. I could have sworn that the Dems wanted to go into Iraq too. The Reps just want to finish the job. Thats why we win Presidential elections.

Though I'm not a conservative, I do have to say that it's pretty funny that neolibs want to keep their freedom of speech intact, but don't want to fight for it themselves.
That seems to be what's going on with your question.
And just a reminder, myself, and everyone else in the military is a volunteer. Each of us put up our hand and agreed to "Obey the orders of the President of the United States and the officers appointed over us" (found in enlistment oaths and the oath of office).
Anyone who joins the military without a thought of "I could be asked to fight and die for my country" is a moron.

Yes typical "mouth-ing" cowards when some else stands in front to take the bullet. Show how much you feel the "worth", stand in front and feel the heat of the battle. Every person that has never stood in battle and speaks another in battle should be ASHAMED to speak of the cost of war! That is the definition of COWARD!

I don't need to hide behind anyone.
And I don't use the word "coward" lightly.
And if it is so impossible, why did most of the House and Senate vote for it?
Without question, Iraq was a nation that provided ''safe haven'' for terrorists with ''global reach.'' Among them were terrormaster Abu Nidal, now dead, Abdul Rahman Yasin, one of the conspirators in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing; Khala Khadr al-Salahat, the man who reputedly made the bomb for the Libyans that brought down Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland, and who surrendered to US Marines in Iraq; Abu Abbas, mastermind of the October 1985 Achille Lauro hijacking and murder of Leon Klinghoffer, who is now in US custody; and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, formerly the director of an al Qaeda training base in Afghanistan, who is now dead. Quite frankly, any war on terrorism that didn't tackle that nest of vipers would have been a war in name only.
We have captured or killed all but one, and all in Iraq. My deepest thanks to every man & woman in our armed forces who have made this world safer from terrorism.

What is more reprehensible are the legions of left-wingers that want our mission in Iraq to fail so they can Chortle: "We told you so".

Since I served my country I find it amusing that those who do not serve ask questions like this. Nobody is "hiding" behind our troops rather we on the right choose to support them.
