Yes because it is a sigh of modesty to cover the head because we believe there is someone above us.Women have somethings kind of like that its called a kerchief which is worn to cover their hair.There are other forms of Modesty to like wearing modest clothes.Check your local synagogue for info.

Its in the 613 commandments (there are more than ten as you probably know) and they're a reminder that god is with us and watching us as we pray and go about our lives for those of us who where it all the time.
