When I was a child i used to bite my nails, and now I've started biting them again!
I am not nervous or worried about anything since people say that is the reason of biting nails.
What can I do to stop myself biting my nails?
I can't even get a manicure for my nails since I know I am going to ruin them!
Please help me!

I have the same problem. They do have a nail polish that you can put on your nails to make them taste like crap or....I just chew on a toothpick. It seems to help, when the toothpicks are around.

Hi, I have the same problem but not with my nails, its my cuticles! And if I bite to much I bleed...a lot! Both are bad habits, but it seems as if biting the fingernails are the simplest probelm to solve.
What you might try doing is applying hotsauce to your nails, but if you do that DO NOT touch your eyes or place you fingers in your mouth. IT WILL BURN!
What I do with my cuticles is carry a small stone (amber) with me at all times. Whenvever I feel like biting I take out the stone and play with it in my hands. It takes my hands off biting and gives my hands something to do, especially when I get bored at school.
If you quit before, you can do it again! It usually will take about 30 days to quit these habits. But what I found in my own personal experience, is that I only bite when I am stressed or in an envirorment I am not fully comfortable in/with.
Over the summer I never bite my cuticles, but as soon as I return back to school, BAM! There it is! Bleeding fingers.
I hope this advice and info help you!
Good luck and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! : - )

Start keeping gum and chewy stuff with you and when you feel the need to bite your nails bite that instead. Or b4 u bite your nail thinks of what it will look like after you bite it.

i have bitten my nails since i was really really young. i had stoped, but wheen the stress of mving to switzerland hit in, it started all over agian, so i know how you feel.
it has been proven that it takes 31 days to break a habit. that means that you will have to NOT chew on your nails for 31 days. here are the things that i have tried and they have worked.
-Paint your fingernails a bright color so that you can see them all the time. some times you can chew without knowing it. it also helps because fingernail polish tastes really nasty.
-wear gloves. not out in public, because i understand that that can be embarrasing. just when you arearound the house, watching TV, messing around on YA, etc, etc.
-make yourself a chart that hase 31 boxes in it. every day that you do not chew your fingernails, check off a box. it really hals me see my progress.
-DON'T GIVE UP. breaking habits can be hard. but never impossible. i don't know how many times i have looked down at jagged and yucky nails and thought to myself 'crap. i did it again'. you can always stop so don't be discouraged.

good luck and God Bless!

Children learn about the world around them on an emotional level only, as there is not enough experience/ intellectual prowess which they can use to decide whether the situation is worth stressing about.
The world seems so big and confusing, and most of children develop a kind of strategy in order to be able to cope - one of the most common ones being nail/ clothes/ hair-biting.
Sometimes when we find ourselves in a deeper state of emotional turmoil later on in our lives - which don't necessarily manifest themselves on the surface - we resort to unconsciously going back to our old habits, which kept us feel emotionally safe, when we were children.
Think about any, not necessarily recent, changes in your life, and how they really affected you.... dreams that didn't come quite true, but you are now 'alright' with it...... peer pressure issues, that sort of thing........ Talk about it with someone you really trust, then talk some more.
See what you come up with.
Good luck.
