Rabbits make great pets. They are quiet and can be kept in a cage as well as be let out to roam around. There are also several breeds of rabbits. They can be litter trained and are a fairly easy pet to take care of. Aquariums are also a great choice, bu don't give you the hands on experience. Ferrets are very interesting creatures, although they can be stinky. They can be left to run around a house and can be taught tricks. There are always reptiles to choose from such as snakes, lizards, geckos, ect. Guinea pigs tend to be kind of smelly, but hamsters and mice aren't quite as bad.
Whatever you decide, make sure you read up on caring for the animal, age expectancy and make sure it's something you want to invest in.

I believe I misunderstood your question.... I originally wrote a whole thing about deciding between a dog or cat! Hehe... Sorry... To answer your actual question, I would get a rat. They are the friendliest of "pocket pets", they don't bite, and I just think they're cool.

How about a rabbit? They can live as long as 10 years. Rabbits can be kept outdoors, though it really is recommended to keep them indoors. They can be litter trained and taught to do some tricks. I have two that stay in their large cage while we aren't at home, then come out into a pen area when we're around. They can also be allowed to simply roam a house if it's bunny-proofed and you start training them early. If you do decide on a rabbit, check your local shelter. They usually have some great ones there. For more information, visit, http://www.rabbit.org/
Good luck with their search.

Guinea pigs are good, so are birds. If you get guinea pigs don't get a boy and a girl or you'll have babies every where. Fish can be a lot of fun but can also cost a lot. Wal-Mart sales the starting kit for fish if that's the way you go.

Well you could get lots of different pets. You could get a gecko or a bird or a hamser or a farrit, or you could get a kitty. They just said you couldn't have a cat.

I'd go with a hamster. They're smart, funny, and cute, and they don't take a lot of time to take care of, either. Other suggestions: Guinea Pig, bird, or turtle.
